Here's my thoughts on disability proud month. I am disabled I need help with everything but personally this new disability proud month doesn't sit right with me. Look around you, everyone has a disability but we don't see each of them having proud months. Yes, people in wheelchairs and other special needs:need to show others that we are the same as everyone else but we have to do that every day. I'm proud to be different. I don't need to show it off.. Because everyone is different!
I was born in south Africa, but I moved to the US Colorado. In many ways it was amazing in others it was hard being as different as I am. But I wouldn't change anything I went through, it has helped me become the person I am. I have many people who didn't think I couldn't study or do anything, but there who were didn't see my difference before getting to know me. I know I am disabled but I don't want to be like I'm disabled I can't do anything! I have done a lot for what kind of CP and many amazing family and friends have helped me see that being different is no biggie. I was Ms. Wheelchair Colorado 2010, I have hiked a 14er… Don't let your disability stop you!
Having a disability is not fun at times. But it's your attitude to what whatever you have that will make your life easier, you might need help with all your needs, but you can still make a great life for yourself, make a difference. Just because we can't walk doesn't mean your life cannot be amazing!
